Why Was JeffCo 2030 Started?

In 2017, Public Health sought coaching from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in ways to improve Jefferson County’s chronically poor public health indicators. One piece of information learned from that process, and other sources, was that people live longer and healthier lives when they have strong connections with their community and family. JeffCo 2030 was created to gather information on the different Jefferson County communities through the community visioning process and to identify ways to support and promote connections.

Who Is Involved in JeffCo 2030?

Jefferson County Public Health found a perfect partner in the Jefferson County Faith-Based Network. Together they formed a strong community network that made the JeffCo Connects website possible. This network quickly grew (and continues to grow) to include many other organizations such as Native Aspirations, St. Charles, the Madras Aquatic Center, and local businesses. With this network of organizations, the visioning process was put into action.

The network organizations provide representatives to serve as group facilitators and invite individuals from within their spheres of influence to participate in the visioning sessions. The goal is to include people from all walks of life to get varied perspectives. Everyone is invited to be a part of JeffCo Connects!

What Is the Community Visioning Process?

The visioning sessions use a process called “nominal group technique”. This is a system that allows participants to break into small groups to discuss key questions or issues, such as supports, challenges and solutions to community health and well-being. Participants will be asked to write down their ideas, share the ideas with the rest of the group to discuss them for clarification. A weighted voting system is then used to rank the ideas. The top five ideas from each group will then be collected and displayed for everyone to see. In the final step, everyone will use dot voting to pick the top of out of the ideas of the event.

How Will the Community Visioning Process Data Be Used?

Through the community visioning process, participants identify supports, challenges and solutions to health and well-being issues in their community. From the ideas shared, community priorities emerge. Jefferson County Public Health and other JeffCo 2030 partners will consider these priorities, along with county health rankings, and other local and regional assessments to formulate a project plan and develop strategies to accomplish those targets. Individual community efforts will also have access to the data to promote connections and improve their health and well-being.
