We are a group of prevention programs that operate under the Warm Springs Health & Humans Services Branch, in the Warm Springs Behavioral Health Department, for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.

Some of the grants that we manage are: Alcohol Drug Prevention Education Program (ADPEP), Tobacco Prevention Education Program (TPEP), Strategic Prevention Framework Partnerships For Success (SPF-PFS), Meth & Suicide Prevention Initiative (MSPI), Papalaxamisha, Garrett Lee Smith (GLS), Juvenile Crime Prevention (JCP) and the Youth Development Council (YDC) grant.

Some of our partners include: The Warm Springs Native Aspirations Prevention Coalition, Warm Springs Justice Team, Trauma Resilience Adverse Childhood Experiences (TRACEs) of Central Oregon, St. Charles Health Systems, Warm Springs Community Counseling Center, BestCare in Madras and the Warm Springs Culture & Heritage Department.

We engage with multiple stakeholders and community influence, utilize the six Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) Strategies, are guided by the Strategic Prevention Framework Model, are informed by Hawkins’ & Catalano’s Risk & Protective Factor theory and we also implement the Community Readiness Assessment model to gauge where our local community is at in terms of different prevention deliverable areas.  Warm Springs uses both Evidence Based Practices and Tribal Best/Tribal Based Practices.  Like any other county, state or non-profit group, our work is becoming more and more data driven, as time goes on.  Much of our work is outreach and promotion, according to the designation of the Institute Of Medicine (IOM) model, what is sometimes referred to as “The Protractor” by our Public Health partners at the state.

Many of our grants are funneled through the State of Oregon (Oregon Health Authority) and we do have some federal grants that are funneled through NARA-NW and one that is through IHS.
